Over the course of several months, Alice Wang traveled between Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Iceland, documenting and creating new work. During this time, she would send images to Todd Meyers—small dispatches with no instructions or descriptions, which he would respond to in writing. What emerged was a conversation in text and image about contact and the imaginative labor of inhabiting another’s landscape; a narrative of being-there and not being there, bound up with the textures and fantasies of place. In image and free verse, their book travels across physical and phantastical spaces, widening the horizon of the extra-terrestrial.

Todd Meyers lives and works in Montreal where he is a professor and the Marjorie Bronfman Chair in Social Studies of Medicine at McGill University. His most recent books are Gone Gone (forthcoming, Duke University Press), a book written through the swirl of grief that follows overdose death, and All That Was Not Her (Duke University Press, 2022), which spans twenty years of a woman’s life and death in Baltimore.
Alice Wang received a B.Sc. in Computer Science and International Relations from the University of Toronto, a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts, and an MFA from New York University. She was a fellow at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Villa Aurora fellow in Berlin, and is a grant recipient from the Canada Council for the Arts. Wang has participated in solo exhibitions at the UCCA Dune Art Museum, Beidaihe, China; Capsule Shanghai (2017, 2021); Human Resources, Los Angeles; and 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, among others. She has also presented work at the Hammer Museum, Galleria Continua, Para Site, Galerie Urs Meile, and the 14th Shanghai Biennale. Wang will present a solo exhibition at the Vincent Price Art Museum in May, and participate as an artist-in-residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in December. She lives and works in New York.
