Joint Book Launch & Conversation

2006 E Cesar E Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles

In celebration of two new books, please join Art Practical for a conversation with Anuradha Vikram, Michelle Dizon, and Việt Lê.

Published by Art Practical and Sming Sming Books, Anuradha Vikram's Decolonizing Culture includes seventeen essays that address questions of race and gender parity in contemporary art spaces. Vikram examines misguided institutional efforts toward inclusivity as well as artists who enact social progress through the creation of art.

White Gaze is an artist book by Michelle Dizon and Việt Lê published by at land's edge, Candor Arts, and Sming Sming Books. Using an archive of National Geographic magazines, Dizon and Lê unearth a genealogy of racist visuality within imperialist narratives and the legacies of war.

Vikram, Dizon, and Lê will discuss strategies of decolonization that artists, writers, curators, and cultural workers can take to both reveal and dismantle the imperialist structures of art institutions and the world at large.
