Owl Cave Books is thrilled to host Sming Sming Books in our San Francisco storefront space.
Formed in 2017, Sming Sming Books is an artist-run publishing studio based in the Bay Area, producing a wide range of artists books. Each book is developed out of close conversation and collaboration with artists and writers whose work and ideas inform the book's design, materials, and printing choices. At its core, Sming Sming Books is committed to promoting critical discourse and advancing cultural equity through the format of publishing.

Sming Sming Books is hosting free Office Hours at Owl Cave to answer questions about self-publishing. Each session is forty-five minutes long, and space is limited to artists and writers who are interested in creating and producing their own book, zine, or journal. Questions can be about generating ideas, design, layout, materials, printing, and production. We do not answer questions regarding finding a publisher, funding, or distribution. This is meant to be an opportunity to workshop your ideas into book form.

Closing Reception
Sunday 2/18, 4-7pm
Please join us for an installation by Sming Sming Books and the closing reception of Owl Cave Books. After 1.5 years at our 18th & Treat storefront space, we will be moving out at the end of February to focus on publishing projects.
We will continue to trade online, participate in exhibitions and book fairs, organize events, and offer a selection of our favorite international titles on art theory, criticism, and politics, but we are very excited to concentrate on our upcoming publishing projects.
